Didactic photographic exhibition for children

The exhibition includes works of Slovenian and foreign photographers: Uroš Abram, Igor Andjelić, Boris Gaberščik, Matjaž Krivic, Stojan Kerbler, Diana Lui, Tihomir Pinter, Boštjan Pucelj, Marc Riboud, Angelika Sher, Jane Štravs, Tanja Verlak, Metka Vergnion

The thematic didactic exhibition IRA PHOTOGRAPHING about photography for children is designed according to contemporary museological principles and on the principle of the Children's Museum.
The exhibition is intended to provide fun, independent discovering and researching of photographs by children (preschoolers and elementary school children of the first triad), accompanied by their parents or educators. Children will be taken through the exhibition by Ira, a girl who likes photography more than anything else, which is the reason why she never goes anywhere without her big camera. Through fun and educational tasks, the children will learn what photography is, how it is made, what photographic techniques and styles exist, will get acquainted with Janez Puhar - the inventor of photography on glass - and also they will get to know the work of important Slovenian photographers.

The children will look through the camera obscura and see what happens to their family and friends, discover the portable mini-laboratory and different kinds of cameras - from the oldest, which can now be seen only in old movies, to the newest, like those they have themselves. On the basis of negatives they will find their positives, they will try different kinds of photographic paper, and will be cast in the role of "little" detectives, and using details and replica items will search for photographs around the gallery. They will paint and draw, try to correctly reconstruct various puzzle-like portraits, discover the exhibited photographs through the various senses - through sight, smell, taste, touch, and sound.

They'll be able to play with a big puzzle and a memory game, rearrange photographs from the oldest to the newest through a time line, and with the use of a fishing rod they'll catch all the things a photographer needs from the aquarium. The exhibition is designed thematically, so children learn about reportage, artistic and fashion photography, as well as a variety of motifs: landscapes, portraits, nudes, still life and similar. Children are also invited to choose their favorite photograph and mark it with a sticker of Ira and thus participate in the selection of the best photography of the exhibition. They will also make a digital picture (composition, fashion) that will be developed right there on-site and be exhibited in the gallery hallway.
