CURRICULUM VITAE

Igor Andjelič lives and works in Ljubljana and island of Hvar.

He was born in 1961 in Ljubljana. In 1979 he completed his studies in photography and opened a graphic design studio. He also worked as a photo reporter and exhibited his work at the same time. His several years of cooperation with gallery ŠKUC turned the said gallery space into one of the most popular socializing spots in Ljubljana.

In his career, the author worked as a designer of various public spaces such as gallery ŠKUC, K4, gallery Kapelica, the coffee house Kavarna Pločnik, the Samsara ice cream bar, and Salon Minimal in a way which gave the said spaces not only form, but also content. It was actually Salon Minimal that counts as his most important work. He used it as his presentation piece at the Biennale of industrial design in Ljubljana in 2001, which resulted in an array of media coverage in globally renowned magazines such as Wallpaper, Stern, Venerdi, Corriere della Sera, Gulliver. Minimal also hosted works of world artists such as American minimalist Sol Le Witt, David Maljković, Marko Peljhan, Dragan Živadinov, Uršula Berlot, Marin, Scanner... In 2003, Minimal's logo was a winner in a competition commissioned by the Type Directors Club New York and featured stiff competition including 2400 designers. In addition, Minimal's price list won the Art directors Club New York award. Both works have been published in their annual report and have traveled the world as part of the group exhibition. The location is also known as an organizer of interesting, innovative artistic events, concept-based social events, which represented a whole new and fresh approach in Slovenia. Among others, its clients included the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, The British Council, the Swiss Embassy, the late president of state and the Republic of Slovenia dr. Janez Drnovšek etc. The old power plant, the Railway Museum and the alternative district of Metelkova are amongst the several once abandoned areas rediscovered by the artist and continuing to offer a regular cultural programme.

Andjelić also worked with the Modern Gallery. As a photographer even with the group IRWIN on their project NSK Guard. This series of photographs actually features two in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MOMA).

In the last few years, he has been working mostly on the island of Hvar, where in 2004, in the city of Hvar, on the city's main square, he opened SALON/MINIMAL/HVAR, which once again stands out from the surroundings thanks to its minimalist aesthetics. Through the salon/gallery, his copyright photographs have become part of many international art collections, such as the collection of art held by the First National Bank USA, the collection of David Erlich, while enthusiastic buyers, next to serious collectors, also include several politicians and celebrities, who tend to stop by on Hvar during the summer months, including Croatian president Stipe Mesič...
